A Little About Dave
On December 21, 1968 two incredibly happy and lucky parents welcomed a delightfully beautiful baby boy. Right about the same time my parents (Don & Nancy) got stuck with me! (insert wicked laughter here)
Being a true native of the state, I'm a proud Florida cracker & southern boy. With all the benefits of a quality Florida education (insert hysterical laughter here) behind me,and much to my parents surprise I did graduate Hillsborough High School in Tampa...an event which continues to confound the Guiness World Record people!
Then came THE question: "now that high school's done, what do you want to do?" I announced my retirement expecting a big party & a gold watch, but instead I received a disdainful look from my mother. You know that look. Anyone with a mother has gotten that look at one time or another! So I opted to attend Hillsborough Community College.
My original desire was to do voices for cartoons but I somehow found myself being drawn into the mysterious world of radio. I bid farewell to friends & family (you can still hear the echoes of relief & happiness from that farewell party!) and moved to Fort Lauderdale to finish my education & launch my career by attending Bauder College (formerly the Brown Institute). I graduated in July of '90. During my stay in Fort Lauderdale I worked in the research department of WMXJ, to be followed by a stint at WKXY in Sarasota.
After a death in the family I left radio to pursue other odd ventures such as marriage, family & the wicked world of retail sales. Alas my heart belonged to radio and in April of 2003 I found myself on the doorstep of KIX Country begging for employment. When they stopped laughing & saw I was still standing there, they felt sorry for me and took me on!
I greatly enjoy the friends I work with. They are like a second family to me... especially that "evil step-father" type, Todd Matthews! Most of my shifts are on the weekends so I'm not often in the so-called limelight. If KIX Country were a baseball game I'd be the relief pitcher. I'm the "swing shift" guy. If Larry's on vacation, it's Dave to the rescue. If Jay stubs his toe, quick call Dave! And should CeCe break a fingernail, after everyone's done laughing they call me.
I do have a special show I'm very proud of on Sunday mornings. It's the "KIX Country 92.9 Weekly Top 30 Countdown" & it contains (as the name implies) the 30 most Hottest country songs in the USA for the week, interviews with the biggest stars & a special feature called "The Red Hot Spotlight." That's where I feature today's Red-Hot country with an emphasis on up and coming local artists, bands & groups from all over Florida so they can enjoy the benefit of having some quality air-time & show YOU what they can do!
